Who is the PAX Flow for?
The PAX Flow is the flavour flagship from PAX, the San Francisco brand known for its pocket vaporizers. It brings the brand's first hybrid heating system, plus an air path that delivers up to six times stronger airflow than earlier PAX models. That fixes the one complaint PAX owners have voiced for years: the tight draw.
The Flow sits at the premium end of the market, and the extra money buys refinement rather than raw power. The battery covers about four to six sessions per charge, and the 40-minute full charge makes up for that. The Flow delivers for anyone who wants clean flavour and an easy pull from a vape that disappears into a jeans pocket.
A Light, Pocket-Friendly Design
The PAX Flow is a slim block of matte aluminium, 10.7 cm tall and about 3.5 cm wide. Despite the metal build it weighs just 135 g. That is remarkably light for a premium portable. The soft-touch finish resists fingerprints and feels solid in the hand.
There is no screen. Four LED lights, called petals, shine through tiny holes in the body to show heating status, mode and battery level. A single button handles every control. Shake the vape at any time to check the battery.
The body does warm during longer sessions at the higher heat settings. A silicone cover, sold separately, improves grip and keeps your hand comfortable through a long session.
Hybrid Heating from All Sides
The Flow is the first PAX with hybrid heating. A hybrid system works like roasting and pan-frying at the same time. A conduction heater wraps around the chamber while a convection coil sends hot air up through the herbs.
PAX calls it the 3D oven because it heats the herbs from all sides. The result is even, thorough extraction with no dark spots or wasted material. The herbs toast without burning.
Heat-up takes about 35 seconds on a full battery, about as long as grinding your herbs. Vapour arrives from the very first draw, even at the lowest setting.
Airflow That Finally Opens Up
Airflow is the reason this vape exists. The redesigned air path moves 10 L of air per minute. PAX rates that at up to six times the draw strength of previous PAX models. The tight, restricted pull of older PAX vapes is gone.
The draw stays effortless even when you pull hard. The vapour path is also isolated from the electronics.
You can fine-tune the feel. Cover part of the air inlet at the base with a finger and the draw tightens to suit you.
Five Heat Modes in Colour
The Flow runs from 180 °C to 225 °C across five presets. Four petal modes cover daily use: purple at 180 °C for quiet, low-key sessions; green at 190 °C for longer sessions that conserve herbs; yellow at 205 °C for flavour; and orange at 215 °C for the strongest extraction of the four.
Lower settings preserve the lighter compounds and taste, while higher settings extract more in fewer draws. Most people should start at the green or yellow petal. The Flow uses presets only; there is no one-degree temperature control.
Behind the presets sits a patented real-time temperature control. A lip sensor and motion sensor detect when you draw and how hard, so the heat keeps pace whether you sip or pull deep. Set the vape down and the heat drops back, so your herbs are not still cooking between draws.
Bong Mode for Water Pipes
The fifth preset is unusual in the industry: a dedicated water pipe mode at 225 °C. To unlock it, cycle through the four petal modes twice until the petals glow in multiple colours at once. The mode then runs a continuous cycle of about five minutes.
At this heat extraction is at its strongest, and water filtration cools and smooths each draw. Direct from the mouthpiece the vapour is intense; through glass it becomes comfortable.
To use it as intended you need the water pipe adapter, sold separately. It fits 14 mm and 18 mm glass connections.
An Oven That Loads from the Side
The stainless steel oven holds up to 0.3 g of ground herbs, which makes it one of the larger ovens in a pocket vaporizer. It also performs well with partial loads of around 0.2 g. The Flow works with dry herbs only.
Loading happens through a side-mounted door, a first for PAX. Press the circle at one end of the door and the opposite end lifts. A built-in funnel then guides the herbs in with less spillage. There is no need to flip the vape over.
A secure magnetic seal holds the door shut, and the door lifts off completely for loading and cleaning. Keep it fitted when the vape travels in a bag. PAX recommends a medium grind, and the hybrid oven is forgiving of how tightly you pack it.
You can make loading even tidier with the grinder and the puck press, both optional. Together they turn herbs into uniform pucks that drop straight into the oven.
How to Use the PAX Flow
Everything runs from one button and the four LED petals, so a session takes little effort.
- Loading: Grind your herbs to a medium consistency. Press the circle on the oven door and fill through the funnel. Tamp lightly with the included multi-tool, then click the door back on.
- Heating: Hold the button for two seconds. The petals glow pink while the oven heats and turn green with a short vibration after about 35 seconds. Green here means ready to use, not the 190 °C mode.
- Choosing a mode: Tap the button to cycle through the four petals, then wait three seconds, or shake the vape to confirm your choice straight away.
- Inhaling: Draw slowly and steadily. The real-time temperature control keeps the vapour consistent whether you sip or pull hard. You can change modes mid-session at any time.
- Finishing: The vape shuts off on its own when set down and left idle, or you can hold the button for two seconds. Let the oven cool for ten minutes, then empty the used herbs with the multi-tool.
Battery and Fast USB-C Charging
The Flow carries a sealed 2000 mAh battery good for 35 to 40 minutes of continuous use. That works out to four to six typical sessions. Shake the vape before heading out and the petals show the charge level in 25% steps.
Charging is where the Flow shines. It is the first PAX herb vape with USB-C. Plug it into a Power Delivery source and it reaches a full charge in about 40 minutes, or 50% in about 20 minutes. It charges like a phone, from any USB-C cable, though the fastest speeds need Power Delivery.
Two things are worth knowing about daily use. The Flow does not run while plugged in; PAX designed it to charge between sessions, which protects long-term battery health. The port also sits on the bottom, so the vape lies flat while charging.
The box includes a USB-C cable but no wall adapter. On a standard USB port, a full charge stretches to roughly 90 minutes. The fast charger unlocks the full 40-minute speed, and the optional charging dock keeps the Flow upright and topped up on a desk or bedside table.
An App You Can Skip
The PAX app adds temperature profiles, haptics and session settings for anyone who likes to tune the details.
The Flow works fully without it. Power, modes, Bong Mode, battery check and LED brightness all live on the vape itself. Most owners will set the app up once and rarely open it again.
Cleaning Takes Minutes
The entire vapour path sits under the oven door, visible and easy to reach, so the Flow is exceptionally easy to clean. PAX suggests a quick clean every three to five sessions.
The routine is short. Let the oven cool, remove the door and clear the used herbs with the multi-tool. Then wipe the oven, door and air path with a swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol. Never submerge the door in liquid.
The oven screen pops out with the multi-tool and comes clean after about 15 minutes in isopropyl alcohol. Three spare screens come in the box, and extra oven screens are available so you can swap a clean one in and soak the used one later.
PAX Flow vs PAX Plus
The PAX Plus was PAX's previous flagship, a conduction-only portable with a loyal following. It costs less and its battery lasts far longer per charge. Its oven also holds more: 0.5 g against the Flow's 0.3 g.
The Flow fixes the Plus's one real weakness with up to six times the draw strength. It also adds hybrid heating, side loading and a dedicated Bong Mode. Charging has moved to USB-C, with a full charge in 40 minutes; the Plus still uses a proprietary charger.
The Plus suits slow sessions and long days away from a socket. Anyone who found earlier PAX draws too tight will feel the difference on the Flow's first pull.
PAX Flow vs Venty
The Venty is Storz & Bickel's flagship portable and the Flow's most direct premium rival. It brings an adjustable airflow dial, a smart flow meter and longer battery life.
The Flow weighs roughly half as much, 135 g to the Venty's 252 g. Its chamber is slightly larger too, 0.3 g against 0.25 g. Its airflow is just as open, and a full USB-C charge takes about 40 minutes.
Pocket carry and discretion favour the Flow; long back-to-back sessions favour the Venty.
PAX Flow vs Mighty+
The Mighty+ is Storz & Bickel's hybrid workhorse and a long-standing benchmark for portable vapour quality. It offers a dosing capsule system, longer battery life and years of proven reliability.
The Flow is far lighter and genuinely pocketable, a one-hand vape where the Mighty+ needs two. It charges fully in about 40 minutes over USB-C. It also adds a dedicated water pipe preset the Mighty+ lacks.
If most of your sessions happen at home and capsule convenience matters, the Mighty+ earns its size. The Flow is the one that leaves the house with you.
Recommended Accessories
Right now we offer a 25% discount on all accessories when you buy any vaporizer here at MagicVaporizers. These are the add-ons we would pick for the Flow.
USB-C Fast Charger (45W): The Flow ships without a wall adapter, and its 40-minute charge needs a Power Delivery source. This charger unlocks the full speed.
PAX Flow - Silicone Cover: Keeps your grip secure and your hand comfortable when the body warms at higher heat modes. Every port and button stays accessible.
PAX Flow - Charging Dock: Holds the Flow upright on a desk or bedside table while it charges, since the port on the bottom otherwise leaves it lying flat. Note that it fits the bare vape, not one in the silicone cover.
PAX - Water Pipe Adapter: The accessory Bong Mode was designed around. It connects the Flow to 14 mm and 18 mm glass for cool, water-filtered sessions.
PAX - Grinder: Produces the medium grind PAX recommends for the hybrid oven. Grinders go further still at 35% off when bought with a vaporizer.
PAX - Puck Press: Presses ground herbs into uniform pucks for consistent packing and even heating, load after load.
PAX - Stash Tube: Carries around four to five sessions of herbs in an airtight, smell-proof tube. A built-in tamper sits on one end.
TightVac - MiniVac 0.12 L: An airtight, smell-proof container that keeps ground herbs fresh between sessions.
PAX - Prep Tongs: Let you handle sticky screens and cleaning jobs without getting resin on your fingers.
PAX Flow - Oven Screens (3-pack): Swap in a clean screen when one gets gummy and soak the used one later. The screens are small and easy to lose, so spares are sensible.
PAX - Rounded Multi-Tool: Curved to fit the PAX oven for mid-session stirring, and it lifts the oven screen out for cleaning.
PAX - Smell Proof Bag: Carries the vape, a grinder and your tools with the odour sealed inside.
MV StashBox + 8 Accessories: A lockable kit with a grinder, containers and a tray, so your whole setup has one home.
PAX Flow - Raised Mouthpieces (2-pack): The taller profile gives a more pronounced lip feel and slightly cooler draws; a spare also keeps sharing hygienic.
PAX Flow - Flat Mouthpieces (2-pack): The flush, snag-free option for pocket days and a low-profile look.
PAX Flow - Replacement Door: The oven door is fully removable by design. A spare is worth having if the original is ever lost or damaged.
